Lola Cafe Seddon

Quality Family Meals, With the Best Views at Lola Cafe Seddon

Lola Café Seddon has a deep history, a rather funky history – as interesting as the founder, Beatriz Fernandez. More affectionately known as Mama Bear. Beatriz, a native Portuguese with a heart for people and for cooking, explored alternative avenues after closing down the CBD café Lorca. Lola was born, named after Beatriz’s favourite flamingo dancer. Armed with a vision and a great sense of direction for the new space, the community-driven, family-focused environment was created to serve both kids and parents. A warm, safe and friendly manner provides a secure area for the kids to play while mum and dad enjoy their meal.

Our Spanish café menu boasts a wide selection of breakfasts, seafood dishes, meat and vegetarian dishes, for sit-down or takeaway, we provide something for everyone. We serve a variety of classics like Spanish vegetarian pisto, smashed avocado and Lisbon breakfast with black pudding, to name but a few. Our freshly-baked delicacies are a mouth-watering experience – everything is worth a try.

About us

Beatriz Fernandez, or “Mama Bea” as she’s affectionately called, named Lola after her favourite flamenco dancer, whose imperious portrait dominates the otherwise muted interior.

The Portuguese native started this inner-west Spanish–Portuguese venue after selling her CBD café Lorca. We loved the area’s friendly, family-focused community.

Lola has a kids menu and activities corner to keep the kids occupied while parents relax with a morning coffee.

The menu has a fairly even spread of vegetarian, seafood and other meat dishes.

On the breakfast menu are classics such as Birches Muesli, - Spanish Pancake - Mushroom Deluxe - Smashed Avocado & Halloumi- Spanish Corn Fritters - Lisbon Breakfast - Lola Bake Eggs - Barcelona Egg Benedict - Free Range Eggs your way - French Toast - Green Eggs as well as a selection of baked goods.

There’s also a range of freshly squeezed juices and smoothies.

The extensive lunch menus include dishes such as  Mushroom & Blue Cheese Croquettes, Squids ink Croquettes, Reuben Sandwich, Chicken Chillindron, Paella, Mediterranean Lamb Salad, Under The Sea  …

To drink, choose from a selection of beer and wine both local and imported from Portugal and Spain  and house-made sangria

Things to Do Near Lola Seddon

We are ideally situated, and you can pop in for lunch or after a day of sightseeing and exploration. Our neighbourhood has loads to offer, for young and old, from architecture, sports, and parks, to water activities and more. Here’s our favourites:

  • The water tower clock, built in 1882, is a must-see. This piece of architectural history is situated at the main entrance of the Southern Cross station and was one of the first landmarks of Melbourne. While in the neighbourhood, stopping at the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, is a fascinating way to spend time learning about the ocean and its inhabitants. You can book online, ahead of time, to guarantee entry.

  • The city of Melbourne is known for its street art. Graffiti originated as an illegal art form, and can be classified as vandalism. Nowadays, however, it is seen as an art form that serves as commentary and statements on a variety of topics. It’s an assertion and means to communicate, contributing to the vibrant energy of the city. Take a walk along Flinders court street art, with an ice cream or smoothie.

  • McNish’ Dinosaur Park is a great outdoor space with loads to explore for kids and fur friends alike. Around the corner is Cruickshank Park, an extensive park that is also dog friendly for a walk. It’s a taste of life outside the city, with a flowing creek and many different trails.
